Amcom Success Stories

An independent research and consultancy company, BuddeComm, recently had this to say about Amcom:

“Amcom is one of the best placed Telco’s in the Australian market with excellent prospects for future growth.”

It’s because of this growth that Amcom is uniquely positioned to offer employees a diverse range of career opportunities. We are constantly promoting from within to fulfil the resource needs and no matter what position you start in you always have the chance to advance or learn new skills in a different field.

Highlighted below are success stories of staff who have grown their careers within Amcom.

Katie - Human Resources
Getting a job with Amcom was a great opportunity for me. I had completed a psychology degree and was half way through a postgraduate diploma in Human Resources Management and was looking for a part-time HR position. I wanted a position that would provide me with real, on-the-job generalist HR experience and also provide me with the flexibility I needed in order to continue with my studies. I was hired as a part-time HR Assistant and exposed to the full range of HR duties. I even ran my first interview within a couple of weeks! Amcom was very flexible, allowing me to work full-time hours during uni breaks and I was able to work around my study requirements.

Once I completed my diploma I was offered a full time position with Amcom. This was perfect for me to start off my HR career so I jumped at the chance. Working full-time meant that I had greater responsibility, exposure and involvement with the day to day operations of a HR department. After working as a HR Assistant for a year and a half, my duties and responsibilities kept expanding, as did Amcom as a business and I was moved into a HR Officer role.

I believe Amcom is a great organisation to work for especially if you are looking to start off your career. The mentoring and support I have received has been invaluable to my career development.

Ian - IT Systems
I started with Amcom in April 2007 as a Customer Care Consultant.  At the time, I was a full time student at Curtin Uni studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems Engineering), Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) double degree.

The hours suited my university time table as there was the possibility of working weekends and evenings on a casual basis.  I was promoted to a Level 2 Customer Care position later in 2007.

After I graduated from university, a position as an ASP.Net Developer became available with Amcom’s IT Systems department in mid 2008, for which I applied.  I now assist with the development and continuous improvement of various internal and customer facing web applications for Amcom and Amnet.  This position has allowed me to develop my skills considerably as a programmer and to work with some very highly skilled developers.  I feel that I have a very interesting and rewarding role, as every day brings new challenges and experiences and the opportunity to help improve our customer experience and to assist my co-workers with getting their jobs done effectively.

Ootam – Client Liaison Officer
I started out with Amcom in August 2006 as Customer Care Consultant. My work consisted mainly of helping customers having technical difficulties with their connections. At that time I was a fulltime ECU student and the working hours suited my uni timetable. But most importantly, I thoroughly enjoyed my work with a bunch of friendly folk.

I completed my masters in mid 2008 and later that year the Networks department was recruiting a Client Liaison Officer.

Knowing that customer service was my forte, several colleagues above me persuaded me to apply for this position.

Today I am part of the Amcom Networks team. My role involves relaying information between the Engineers and our clients. Being in a different department, I realised that the great team spirit prevails throughout Amcom.

Brendon - Service Delivery Officer
I started at Amcom in 2008, working in the Amnet department as a Customer Care Consultant where my main duties were technical support for Amnet customers. Within three months I was promoted to DSL Provisioning Officer where I took care of Amnet ADSL and domain orders from when the customer submitted them, to when they were completed.

I have now been promoted to Service Delivery Officer just some 4 months later, where I am now responsible for handling Amcom Fibre and corporate service orders from the initial service submission date, to the completion stage. I find my job interesting and has new challenges each day, which I enjoy.

Amcom is a great place to work, with a fantastic company culture and great people to work with.

The job opportunities are great; I look forward to any future challenges that my position entails.

John – Team Leader Customer Care
My start at Amcom as a Customer Care Consultant was not the only new thing for me, as I had moved from Albany to Perth, Amcom was my first job in the “Big Smoke” and my first job with a publicly listed corporate company. Being nervous about a new job and moving from my home town was short lived, as the environment and people I worked with were very supportive and encouraging.

I was promoted to Provisioning Officer in late 2007 and have recently moved into the Team Leader role in Customer Care.

“My roles at Amcom have always been exciting and challenging, there is always something new around the corner.”

“The people at Amcom make the company a great place to work.”

Warren – Connections Engineer
I have always had a passion for IT. After I completed a number of certificate courses at TAFE in IT Networking & Computer System Engineering, I was working as a computer technician for various companies with no real chance for advancement.

I had been a customer of Amnet and had seen they were employing Customer Care consultants. After further reading into the job description and the benefits of working for Amcom I was encouraged to see that there were opportunities to further my career advancement within the organisation which really appealed to me.

I started as a Customer Care consultant in June 2008, and after a few months I was moved into a Level 2 Customer Care role. Then in October, I applied for an internal Networks position and was a successful in my application.

“My career advancement at Amcom has been great, it’s the whole reason I started in an entry level position at Amcom.”

“I am very pleased and grateful to Amcom for making my IT aspirations a reality, now I work with a great group of people in a role I really enjoy for an ISP that is on the way up .”

Tim – Connections Engineer
I’m a Network Connections Engineer at Amcom with a degree in Computer Systems and Networking. This role involves connecting new Ethernet services to the Amcom Network as well maintaining existing services; allowing me to utilise skills obtained from my tertiary studies.

I started in the Amnet division as a DSL Provisioning Oficer in early 2007 after wanting to gain more experience within the field of networking; an area relevant to my field of study. The position allowed me to gain real world experience whilst still being able to complete my tertiary education.

In late 2007, whilst in the final year of my degree, I moved into a Fibre provisioning role where I was able to further expand my knowledge of networking, particularly within the Amcom network.

It was always my intention to begin my career at Amcom if the opportunity ever arose. Thankfully, after 18 months with Amcom and on the verge of completing my degree, a network connections engineer role became available.

After being encouraged by colleagues to apply I was successful and promoted to this role.

“It’s really exciting to be working at Amcom and to know that you have a voice and can make a difference and you’re part of a company that encourages career development.”

Mat – Junior Network Engineer
I first started at Amcom as a Casual in the Amnet Customer Care team, as this worked well with my studying and the hours were really flexible. When I first started I was told that people could be promoted very quickly within the organisation, I had no idea just how true that statement was. Three months after starting in Customer Care, a position establishing new connections in networks became available, I applied and got the job. A few months after that I was promoted again within the networking group to become network engineer. “I have found Amcom to be a great place to work, the staff are committed to the company and it's customers.”

“It is a very professional environment to work in, at the same time, however, no one is looking over your shoulder or trying to micro-manage you and we have a lot of fun.”

“I always find that I am provided with enough challenges to keep me interested, and if I need help, there is a wealth of knowledge within the company to advise me.”
